Lavender

Lavender

Distilled from the plant Lavandula angustifolia, pure lavender oil has been found to possess many soothing properties, encouraging sleep, reducing anxiety and depression. Studies have found breathing in the aroma of pure lavender oil helped to reduced anxiety and improved mood (1).

Lavender has also been found to have calming effects on the nervous system helping to support more restorative sleep. Breathing in lavender oil stimulates GABA, a relaxing neurotransmitter involved in inducing sleep (2). With lavender being a potent essential oil for improving sleep health, we have included it in several of our blends, including our Lavender pillow mist.

 
 
 
 
 
Patchouli

Patchouli

Extracted from the leaves and flowers of the bushy herb, Pogostemon cablin, this musky herbaceous oil has grounding, balancing, peace-inducing effects. Studies have found that breathing in the patchouli scent reduces stress levels and enhances ones sense of well-being (3). Patchouli oil is a key ingredient in our Calm & Restore collection for inviting moments of calm and stillness.

 
 
 
 
Chamomile

Roman Chamomile

Distilled from the plant, Chamaemelum nobile, the oil is known for its soothing and calming properties which support sleep health. Ancient Romans used the oil for mental clarity and courage. Studies have found inhaling roman chamomile oil in patients with heart disease reduced anxiety, increased sleep, and stabilised the blood pressure of patients undergoing hearty surgery(4).

Chamomile is synonymous with with getting a good nights’ sleep. It is rich in apigenin, a phytochemical that binds to specific brain receptors inducing sleep involving the GABA neurotransmitter. GABA enables the body and mind to relax and fall asleep. Roman chamomile oil is a key ingredient in our Pillow mist, formulated to improve sleep quality.

Grapefruit

Distilled from the Citrus Paradisi fruit this fresh and uplifting aroma is known for combating mental fatigue. This energising oil is perfect for incorporating into your morning routine. Studies have shown that breathing in the aroma of this oil reduced levels of the stress hormone, cortisol (5). Grapefruit oil is a key ingredient in our Grapefruit and Bergamot candle.

 
 
 
 
Rose Geranium

Rose Geranium

Sourced from the Pelargonium graveolens plant, this floral and musky oil contains a number of compounds thought to enhance health, including citronellol and geraniol. Rose geranium oil is known to promote emotional balance.

A study on women in labor found that breathing in the aroma of rose geranium had calming effects on the sympathetic nervous system, reducing levels of anxiety (6). Rose geranium oil is a key ingredient in our grounding Himalayan Rose candle.
